Counterfeit Money Allegedly Given To Walmart Customer

A Walmart location in Oklahoma is accused of giving a woman a fake $100 bill when they cashed a check for her.

"I had a little bit extra , I was excited about from working the holiday, Thanksgiving, so that little extra was taken away from me. It's just a horrible feeling," Kayla Benham told KFOR, a local TV news channel.

Benham brought a check to Walmart to get cashed, but didn't check to make sure the bill wasn't counterfeit because she got it from a billion-dollar company.

After cashing the check Benham headed over to Buy For Less where her fake money was denied by the cashier when she tried to purchase groceries.

When she went back to Walmart with the fake money they gave her Benham was given a hard time.

"He was like, well there's nothing we can do, you could have went out and got that and just brought it back to us. I'm not that kind of citizen," Benham recalled.

When the Walmart location heard Benham was going to KFOR with her story they gave her the case - this time with $20 bills.

Counterfeit money has been an ongoing issue in the country for decades. To learn how to tell if a bill is counterfeit you can review these guidelines issued by the Secret Service.

Police are investigating the incident.
