British songwriter Jessie J opened up in a Glamour interview about how her rent was paid for three years just from writing Miley Cyrus' 2009 hit "Party in the USA," Just Jared reported on Monday.
"You've got to write songs, that's where the money is, being an artist. 'Party In The USA' paid my rent for, like, three years," the 26-year-old said. "Actually it was way longer than that. That's where I get most of my money. I write songs. I'm a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that's all added on."
She originally wrote the song for herself, but ended up giving it to Miley after Jessie's team wasn't hot on the idea of featuring it on her own album.
With her addition to "Bang Bang" alongside Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Jessie J has established herself as a major player in the American pop world after years of underperforming albums, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Like Charli XCX, Tove Lo and Sia, Jessie J worked towards her breakthrough in the music industry as a songwriter for hire.
