A 3-year-old boy was found inside his mother's stolen car in Utah on Tuesday after he honked the horn and answered his mother's cell phone to get noticed, Yahoo News reported on Tuesday.

The mother ran inside a day care to drop off another child, a baby, around 7 a.m. and left the car unlocked and running with the 3-year-old inside. When she came back, she watched in horror as someone drove off in her car with her child still strapped inside.

Police called the woman's cell phone to hopefully talk to the thief and get them to let the boy go, but instead, the boy picked up. He said he didn't know where he was, but that he was alone after the thief ran away.

He was then directed to beep the horn so authorities could follow the sound. He was found just three blocks away.

"He was scared, but it was a good thing at his age that he was able to get himself out of his child seat and honk the horn," LT. Tim Scott said.

The boy and his mother were reunited 20 minutes after the harrowing experience, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported. The suspect is being sought by police.
