A three-pound dog is the newest registered member of the Woods Cross police department in Utah.
Spot, a 14-month-old terrier, doesn't do much more training than learning to attack a feather duster or chasing a red laser pointer to work on his agility. He has a bigger role at the department - to boost the morale of the workers.
"One day one of the detectives was having a really bad day after a really bad call," Stephanie Gonzales, who works in police records, tells CNN affiliate KUTV. "All of a sudden, Spot ran up to him and was so excited to see him and from that point on, it was a big morale booster and we needed to keep him around."
His presence is so entertaining that his fellow officers hate when he takes a sick day.
"Woods Cross is a great department and having him here is an added bonus for us," Officer Mike Daugherty told KUTV. "He's a lot of fun to play with."
The department is planning on getting an actual patrol dog once they have enough room in the budget.
