A 60-year-old Kansas woman saved her neighbor from being sexually assaulted by throwing a sledgehammer at the attacker.

A 60-year-old woman from Wichita, Kansas, ran to the rescue of her 48-year-old neighbor after hearing her scream for help. She was successful in saving the neighbor from being sexually assaulted by throwing a sledgehammer at the attacker. The sledgehammer used by the woman was not mighty as the Mjolnir hammer of the Thor, but was good enough to make the attacker flee the crime scene.

The woman who ran to the rescue of her neighbor next door at an apartment complex in the 800 block of South Market, heard her call out for help. The 60-year-old yelled at the man to stop at first, which resulted in an attack on the woman with a chain causing minor injuries. But determined to save her neighbor, the woman picked up a sledgehammer lying nearby and threw it at him. Although she missed her shot, it was good enough to scare the attacker, who was an acquaintance of the victim, police told Kansascity.com.

The police arrived at the scene at about 2:30 a.m. early Saturday. Officers arrested the 53-year-old attacker and charged him with attempted rape and assault.
