In what is perhaps the definition of irony, a Pennsylvania liquor enforcement officer was charged with a DUI after crashing his car, the Citizens Voice reported.

Hanover Township police say 34-year-old Michael Rutkowski's blood alcohol level was .278 percent when he severed a utility pole and crashed into a tree while driving on Jan. 9.

The blood alcohol limit is .08, putting Rutkowski's at three times the amount allowed.

The liquor officer injured his head and was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Rutkowski, of Nanticoke, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving for the single-vehicle crash. His current employment status was not immediately released, according to the Citizens Voice.

He is expected to appear in court for arraignment on April 10.
