A 2-year-old Pennsylvania girl is dead after she was mauled to death by a pit bull owned by a nearby family, according to CBS Pittsburgh.

Taylynn DeVaughn was at the home of her aunt's boyfriend in West Mifflin on Sunday when she was severely bitten by the pit bull mix.

"I came out of the kitchen. [The dog] dropped her and she was gone, bleeding from here," Cory DeVaughn, Taylynn's father who was at the home cooking dinner when the attack occurred, told CBS Pittsburgh.

Paramedics rushed the toddler to Jefferson Memorial Hospital but she succumbed to her wounds.

"For me to go through this, to hear last night and see her at the hospital, just not her, couldn't believe it was her and still don't believe it was her," Taylynn's godfather Kevin Jermay told the station.

It's not clear what prompted the animal to attack the girl, nor is it clear if its owners will be charged. The dog was taken to a nearby kennel for a 10 day quarantine while Allegheny County Police investigate.

"A lot of people who have kids gotta be careful whose house they take their child to, so it won't happened to your child what happened to mine," Cory DeVaughn said.
