The Washington Redskins have re-signed backup quarterback Colt McCoy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal is reportedly for one year. As of now, Washington still has Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins still on the roster. All three signal-callers are entering contract years.

Washington publicly committed to RGIII as its starting quarterback for the 2015 season, though it is unknown if that was solely the decision of second-year head coach Jay Gruden or if the mandate came from owner Dan Snyder. Gruden repeatedly criticized Griffin last year and did not offer the QB much support in-season.

McCoy started four games for the Skins in 2014, winning one. He completed 71.1 percent of his passes for 1,057 yards while posting a 96.4 passer rating. Cousins started five games and appeared in six. He completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,710 yards with ten touchdowns against nine interceptions and a passer rating of 86.4. RGIII appeared in nine total games last year and completed 68.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,694 yards with four scores against six picks and a passer rating of 86.9.

The Redskins have been rumored to be interested in Oregon QB Marcus Mariota in the upcoming draft. However, some around the NFL believe it is just a smokescreen to increase their trade value.
