The Three Stooges are returning to the big screen.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the comedy movie is getting a sequel with the three leading stars - Sean Hayes (Larry), Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe) and Will Sasso (Curly) - expected to reprise their previous roles. Cameron Fay, who wrote the script for "Brothers in Law," has been hired to write the script for "The Three Stooges 2."

Production company C3 Entertainment confirmed the movie in a website post on Friday, writing, "The Three Stooges are returning to the big screen in a new action-comedy feature film. Sean Hayes (Larry), Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe) and Will Sasso (Curly), will reprise their roles as The Three Stooges."

"We're excited to be moving forward with The Exchange and Grand Peaks on the next Three Stooges movie," C3 Entertainment CEO Earl Benjamin shared in a statement. "With Sean, Chris and Will back as our Stooges and Cameron writing, this next film will be a truly unique blend of fast paced action with the hilarious mayhem of 'The Three Stooges."'

It was not mentioned if former cast members, including Sofía Vergara, Larry David and Kate Upton, will also reprise their roles in "The Three Stooges" sequel.

In April, Sasso posted an Instagram selfie showing himself with Hayes and Diamantopoulos, with the caption, "Me and my favorite Stooges."

The 2012 movie, which was directed by the Farrelly Brothers, premiered to mixed reviews and disappointing box office numbers with just under $55 million at the global box office and a $30 million budget. The sequel is being painted as an action-comedy rather than a comedy.
