New York Rapper, Chinx, was killed in a shooting in Queens early Sunday morning. Lionel Pickens, the 31-year-old rapper who performed as Chinx, was a part of French Montana's group, Coke Boys.

Pickens was shot multiple times in the chest around 4 a.m. and later died in a hospital in Queens, police told CBS. The shooting took place at Queens Boulevard and 84th Drive in Briarwood.

Chinx and another man were driving in a Porche when they were both shot. The other man is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

The Legion Media Group, who were a part of Pickens' management team, released a statement on their Instagram stating that he will always be remembered for his "dedication, humor and vision."

The shooters remain unknown and an investigation now takes place. So far, no arrests have been made but two men have been taken into custody for questioning.

A nearby witness, Raymond Rivera, says, "It was a black Mercedes that came right next to the car and they let off shots." He watched Pickens fall to the pavement and then says, "Police came. They put a blanket over him. They came took him in the ambulance."

Friends and fans watched the crime scene in silence, shocked at what had just happened. As a rapper who may have been headed to the top, some fans wonder if this was all an act of jealousy.

French Montana posted a video of Chinx to his Instagram with a heartbreaking caption. "Life here is temporary. They will kill you for this lifestyle," the caption read. Montana sends his prayers to his family and children.
