A 24-year-old woman died after being shot by a man believed to be her boyfriend in the car park outside a Target store located at a Germantown shopping center, according to Montgomery County police, The Washington Post reported.

The shooting took place on Monday evening, and the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, police officials said.

Police revealed that a 27-year-old suspect bolted from the crime scene in a white Ford Ranger pickup truck, but was later apprehended and placed under arrest. Witnesses gave authorities a description of the suspect's truck, after which a police officer located the vehicle, initiating a pursuit and taking the suspect into custody after his car crashed, according to CBS Local.

The suspect was then taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries form the car crash, and a handgun was recovered from the vehicle. The suspect and the victim were believed to be in a relationship, according to police authorities.

Police officials believed that the shooting was domestic in nature and, according to preliminary investigations, the suspect and the victim had pre-planned their meeting in the shopping center to talk. The shooting is currently being investigated as a homicide.
