Best Buy Geek Squad Security Scandal and Lawsuit: Employee Steals and Leaks Student's Private Nude Pictures Online (PHOTOS)

A University of Alabama student is suing Best Buy after a member of their Geek Squad stole and leaked nude photos of her online after working on her computer, the Daily Mail reports, the student, Nicole March, reportedly left "devastated and humiliated" by the incident.

March's lawyers claim that the nude photographs of her that were lifted from her laptop were taken for an art project and not for any sexual purposes.

"In her artistic endeavors and with an interest in the human body, plaintiff [March] has, from time to time, had professional and privately made nude photographs of herself which she stored on her personal computer for private, personal and professional reference and use," the lawsuit states, according to the Daily Mail.

March is suing Best Buy for negligence in the supervision and training of its employees.

According to the lawsuit, March took her laptop to a Tuscaloosa, Ala. Best Buy for repair back in August 2011. Nine months later, March, who worked part-time at Best Buy, was confronted by a co-worker who informed her that her nude photographs had leaked online. A Geek Squad employee who worked on her computer had allegedly taken the photos from her hard drive, uploaded them to the Internet and linked them on the file-sharing site, Pirate Bay.

March went to the police to complain, but no action was taken against the Geek Squad member, though store managers have identified the culprit. However, the lawsuit requests that their name not be released to the press.

"In this day in society we've got to do everything we can to protect privacy and that's the purpose of this suit," March's lawyer, Stephen Hennigen, told the Daily Mail.

"This conduct was utterly reprehensible and cannot be tolerated in a civilized society where a customer entrusts her computer to a service for repair and rescue only to have sensitive and private data, images, and information uploaded to public links for use by strangers and the public at large," stated the lawsuit.
