A woman pleaded guilty to bigamy, among other charges, in Virginia after she wed a 27-year-old Waynesboro woman last year without first getting a divorce from her husband, reported the Associated Press.
Keyshana Rae Childress, 28, was sentenced to two years probation on charges of bigamy, perjury and parental kidnapping, according to the News Virginian.
According to the prosecuting attorney, when Childress applied for a marriage license last October, she lied about already being married.
Childress was legally wed to 51-year-old Bobby Nicholson from Charlottesville.
After she tied the knot with her female partner, she took her three children (all under the age of six) from her marriage to Nicholson to Gainesville, Fla., according to Fox News.
"The marriage was voided because the defendant was legally married to another person," said Robert Garnett, assistant commonwealth's attorney.
In January, Nicholson complained to the police that Childress was not permitting him to see his children. He also informed the police that she had taken the children to Florida without asking his permission, violating a child custody and visitation order.
Nicholson and Childress got married in 2008 and broke up in 2012. Nicholson said he had no clue that Childress had an attraction towards women at the time. "That is why our marriage didn't work out—I couldn't give her what she wants," he said, reported the Daily Mail.
