Christopher Lee, a British actor who was well renowned for his unforgettable performances as Count Dracula, Fu Manchu and a horrifying wizard in "The Lord of the Rings," has died at the age of 93.
Lee died on Sunday morning, June 7, at Westminster Hospital in London after being admitted for respiratory problems and heart failure, according to the New York Times.
The horror icon's wife, former Danish model and painter Gitte Kroencke, decided to release the news days later in order to inform family members first. The couple had been married since 1961, the Guardian reported.
Lee broke into the realm of film in 1957 through Terence Fisher's British horror movie "The Curse of Frankenstein," in which he starred as Frankenstein.
A year later, Lee played Dracula and he owned the identity of the character, and even exuded sex appeal, if that's possible through a blood-sucking demon.
