Sam Smith is back in the singing business.
Less than a month after undergoing suspension microlaryngoscopy surgery to treat a hemorrhage on his vocal cords, the 23-year-old Grammy winner is returning to the stage. Smith revealed that he will be going on tour starting July 3.
The "Stay With Me" singer made the announcement in a video he posted on Twitter on Tuesday, with a post captioned, "A message... x Absolutely cannot wait to perform live again, thank you all for waiting for me!!"
"As you can see, I can speak again for the first time in three weeks," he told his fans in a video message posted to Instagram and Twitter. "And it's been horrible. And sitting in silence and knowing that I should be doing shows has killed me. But finally I have some good news, and that's that I'll be starting all my shows up from the third of July. And it's all as planned and I'm gonna try my absolute best to sing my heart out for you every night. Please bear with me, as always, and I love you all!"
Smith was previously forced to cancel his Australian tour along with the dates for his concerts in Tokyo, France, Monaco and The Philippines.
In May, the three-time Brit Award winner opened up about his "horrendous" vocal cord surgery and admitted that he has yet to sing properly since the operation. However, Smith did call the vocal break a "blessing in disguise" after "singing too hard for too long."
"It was so bad. But I got through and everyone's been so amazing about it, so thank you," he said in a recent BBC Radio 1 interview. "I've just been like singing in the shower and stuff. I'm just trying to take it slow. I've got two more weeks chill time. My first show is 3 July which is Thetford Forest and from then I'm back on the normal schedule."
