A brave beagle named Max gave his life to protect his humans from a bear attack.
After the Hanna family let their dogs Max and Pete outside for the last time before bed at their Michigan home, the dogs noticed a giant four-legged intruder in their yard, reported 9&10 News.
The dogs were barking wildly at the sight of the bear so Jeff went outside to see what was wrong.
"I spotted a bear coming around the shed that you had seen out there by the driveway," Jeff Hanna told 9&10 News. "I seen it and, at that point, I could tell it was charging. I just yelled, 'get out! get out! it's here!'"
Before Hanna could do anything, Max dove in front of Hanna to attack the bear. Unfortunately the bear was much more powerful and severely injured Max.
Max heroically saved Hanna from the bear, but Max's injuries were so severe that the family had to euthanize him.
The family is praising Max as a hero and remembering him for the loving dog that he was.
