Facebook VIP App: Get it Only if you are a Celebrity

Unless you are a celebrity, the new 'VIP app' that Facebook is working on is not for you.

The social networking giant is currently testing this new app with a small group of famous people. This app basically lets celebrities easily monitor their own Facebook fan chatter from a mobile device. With that, celebs can swiftly reply to their fans and become a part of the conversation.

The project is an addition to Facebook’s thrust to persuade stars to share more things on their site and an even larger step to compete straightforwardly with Twitter for “public” sharing.

This is how it works, if a celeb gives out an update to fans that make up the most number of chatters, the VIP app will make it easier to see the thread of comments.

That is significant for Facebook, which could stand to see more celeb-fan engagement. Twitter, on the other hand, makes it way easier for stars to keep an eye on their fans’ chatter, with the ability to rapidly scan down a column of comments from fans, and to answer back.

In an interview of AllThingsD with a spokesman of Facebook he said, “We are currently testing some mobile features designed to help public figures interact with their fans. We are testing these features with a small group of partners and will share more details should we roll it out more widely.”

Availability of apps that try to make it easy for stars to share across all networks is worth noting.

In that matter, Facebook has grouped its talented team over the past year to work with stars on the trial, which includes posting open thoughts and photos. The rundown of the app, supposedly, will make those kinds of things simpler.

Facebook is somehow trying to patch things up with the consumer side. The company gave out a number of features similar to Twitter over the past few months like Trending Topics, Hashtags, and Embedded Posts — in an effort to make more public-facing Facebook activities seen.
