As part of the celebration of the Independence Day, the Philippines will broadcast a three-part documentary to defend its position on the South China Sea as the territorial dispute of the sea continues.
The documentary, entitled "Karapatan sa Dagat", or maritime rights, will be aired on state-run television, countering the Chinese television series featuring its nine-dash line claims, Reuters reported.
"Our objective is to inform our people," said Charles Jose, the foreign ministry spokesman. Jose added that they are also looking forward to get the support of the people, especially those behind the Philippine government's policy and action.
China has also aired an eight-part documentary on a state-owned CCTV network in 2013 entitled "Journey on the South China Sea," consolidating its claims.
This so-called "video war" is prompted since China has constructed an airstrip and other military facilities on reclaimed land in the Spratly islands, expanding its claim on the sea.
The coveted South China Sea is rich in energy resources where $5 trillion ship-borne trade passes every year. The Philippines has filed an arbitration case against China, which claims the entire sea.
Aside from China and the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan also have claims on the sea.
Jose also revealed that aside from the film, a comic book will also be released to raise Filipinos' awareness on the issue.
