Samsung Electronics Company announced the price and availability of its first 55-inch curved OLED HDTV in the United States for $9000.
Samsung, world leader in electronics, has announced the availability of its first 55-inch Curved OLED HDTV, competing against the LG Electronics Curved OLED TV, with a price tag of $8,999.99.
The competition in the new curved screen technology has got tougher with Samsung dropping its product's price by 40 percent compared to LG. The curved OLED TV , KN55S9C, was initially expected to arrive in the U.S. for $15,000 but surprisingly Samsung reduced the price by almost half.
Curved screen technology is the new trend in TVs. LG was the first one to introduce the technology and Samsung followed suit. There has been no word on other TV companies integrating the new technology into their future production, but who knows.
Samsung's KN55S9C is packed with some great features. It is the first to support Multi View feature, which allows two people to watch different programs in Full HD and 3D simultaneously. The new feature works with Samsung's 3D Active glasses, which are built-in with personal speakers that correspond with the individual video.
The South Korean giant claims the new technology in its Curved OLED TV beats out the motion blur and crosstalk and it has also discarded the color filter as the self-emitting RGB sub-pixels are laid directly on the color display panel for bright and vibrant picture quality.
"As a leader in standout design and television display technology, Samsung's new Curved OLED TV sets the bar for the next generation of televisions coming to market," Joe Stinziano, executive vice president, Samsung Electronics America, said in a statement. "Customers have come to expect brilliance from Samsung, and our Curved OLED TV is just that. With true-to-life color, ultimate contrast, and superior picture quality, this new TV delivers an astonishing home entertainment experience."
Samsung began its sale of Curved OLED TV in South Korea in June for $13,000 after it was launched during the CES 2013 earlier this year. The company said that its design "is inspired by a 'Timeless Arena' [in] which the display is placed within a luxurious frame whose curved shape mirrors the curvature of an arena." The KN55S9C is available for purchase online at Samsung.com.
