MLB News: Albert Pujols Passes Mickey Mantle on All-Time Home Run List (WATCH); Giancarlo Stanton Blasts 22nd Homer

Earlier this week Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols tied Mickey Mantle on the all-time home run list during the team's series in Tampa Bay against the Rays. Last night he made another mark on MLB history in St. Petersburg.

Pujols smacked his 537th career home run and officially passed Mantle to take sole possession of 16th place on baseball's all-time home run list. The Angels defeated the Rays 6-2 and took two out of three from Tampa Bay before heading back to Los Angeles to face the Oakland Athletics this weekend. Pujols finished 2-for-5 with one run scored, a home run and two RBIs.

The historic home run came in the ninth inning off of Rays' right-hander Preston Guilmet.

On Tuesday the 35-year-old blasted his 536th homer to tie Mantle and came within three RBIs of Chicago Cubs' legend Ernie Banks. Pujols now trails Banks by one RBI and Philadelphia Phillies' legend Mike Schmidt by 11 home runs on the all-time list. The slugger is now batting .267/.318/.535 with 33 runs scored, 17 home runs and 32 RBIs this year.

From a decorated veteran to a young star, Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit his 22nd home run of the season and extended his lead in that category. Stanton helped his club end a three-game skid in last night's 6-0 win over the Colorado Rockies. He went 2-for-5 with one run scored, a home run and four RBIs.

Stanton also leads the MLB in RBIs with 55 and Arizona Diamondbacks' first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is the next closest with 49. Washington Nationals' outfielder Bryce Harper is next in home runs with 20.

The Marlins (25-36) hope to capitalize on their four-game home series against the Rockies this weekend.
