No one can say for sure who is playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel and Sony reboot. But we can say who isn't playing the iconic web slinger.
Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl on AMC's "The Walking Dead," took to Twitter to announce that he will not be portraying Peter Parker. This comes as a bit of a surprise, as Riggs' name was not even mentioned among the rumored candidates for the role over the last few months.
Spider-Man is expected to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year's "Captain America: Civil War," hence the hashtag from Riggs, before getting his own solo flick in 2017. Since Riggs was informed that he did NOT get the part, it's fair to speculate that the studios have landed on the actor who will be cast. The most recent reports put Asa Butterfield ("Ender's Game, "Hugo") as the favorite, with Tom Holland ("The Impossible") as a close second.
The role of Spider-Man is not expected to be needed on the "Civil War" set until July, so an official announcement may still be a few weeks away. Marvel is reportedly looking for an actor in their teens to portray Spider-Man over the next decade.
