Israel Reprimands Troops Who Beat Palestinian Man

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has court-martialed three soldiers who beat up an unarmed Palestinian man from the Kfir Brigade on Sunday.

Kfir Brigade commander Colonel Asher Ben-Lulu sentenced two soldiers to suspended sentences of 28 days in a military jail while the third soldier, who was seen swearing at the man, was sentenced to 30 days dentention on base, the Times of Israel reported.

The sanctions come after the release of footage that showed the three soldiers beating up the Palestinian man with various actions such as verbal rebuke, "conditional imprisonment" and confinement to a base at the Jelazoun refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

The soldiers assaulted the man using their fists and the end of their rifles. They also uttered obscenities towards the man, who was unarmed, helpless and defenseless.

The army concluded that "while the arrest was justified, the means were inappropriate," Al Jazeera reported.
