Less than a month after heavy rainfall crippled parts of the state, Texas is in the crosshairs of Tropical Storm Bill.
The severe weather system made landfall in Matagorda Island, just off the coast of Corpus Christie, Texas around 11:55 a.m, local time, NBC News reported. The storm is expected to dump 12 inches of rain on the region and pack 60 mph winds at times, according to Fox News.
The National Weather Service warned that average rainfall for parts Texas will be 3 to 6 inches, while Austin and surrounding areas can get as much as 12 inches. Oklahoma is expected to get similar averages, while Western Louisiana and Arkansas may see up to 4 inches of rain.
Abbott also warned of the potential damages flash flooding could have.
"Any additional rainfall will exacerbate already saturated grounds, which could quickly lead to dangerous flash flooding and extended river flooding," he said.
