An Alabama man had sex with his wife's dog because he thought she was spending much more time with the pet than him.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jonathan Edward Medley, from Geneva, Ala., was arrested Friday night and charged with bestiality, reported the Dothan Eagle. He was allegedly caught on camera having sexual intercourse with the dog.
"He was mad at his wife because she paid more attention to the dog than him—so he had sex with the dog. She actually thought he was having an affair with another woman and hid a recording device. She learned he was, in fact, molesting the dog," said Geneva Police Captain Ricky Morgan, according to the Dothan Eagle.
Buster, the 2-year-old male Shih Tzu, suffered injuries, reported the New York Daily News. Vets feared the pet's injuries would lead to his euthanization. However, Morgan said Buster was traumatized, but doing remarkably better.
"We've dealt with hungry dogs, abandoned dogs, but never with a dog that was sexually abused. Speaking to her and him, he was upset because she paid more attention to the dog than him, and this was her baby. This was his way of causing her the pain... to mess with the dog," said Morgan, according to WTVY.
Medley was earlier charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, but Geneva police changed the charge to misdemeanour bestiality. He was held on $535 cash bail and faces up to a year in the county jail if convicted.
The Shih Tzu is a small, sturdy dog with a height up to 11 inches (28 centimeters) and weight between 9 and 16 pounds (4 to 7 kilograms). "Bred solely to be a companion, the Shih Tzu is an affectionate, happy, outgoing house dog who loves nothing more than to follow his people from room to room," described DogTime.
