Cat Trapped In Moving Box For Two Months Without Food Or Water, 'Miracle' Cat Finds His Way Home

Moosie, a two-year-old kitty, was trapped inside a futon mattress that was put into a moving box. The unintentional adventurer traveled for 64 days by truck, boat and train from Texas to Alaska. Moosie's humans, Kymberly Chelf and her husband, Jesse, thought that during the moving process, their beloved cat had run away.

"It was very heartbreaking thinking that we had lost him," Kymberly said, according to KTVA. "We tried everything to find him."

A few hours after the Chelfs' belongings arrived at their new Alaskan home, Kymberly heard her Moosie's cry. Moosie survived two months in total darkness without food or water. "As soon as I heard him meowing, it just sounded like he was giving it everything he had just to let us know he was there," she said.

"I called for my husband and was like, 'We found Moosie,'" Kymberly said. "The look on his face was just disbelief."

Moosie was treated at the vet for severe dehydration, but Moosie's prognosis is a good one.

"He does have some changes to his liver, but his kidneys were working fine, which is really astounding," said Dr. Hayden Nevill. "We started first with rehydrating him, and now our big challenge is we have to get his entire digestive system restarted."

Another pet made a similar journey in December 2014. To read about Mee Moowe, the cat who traveled from Virginia to Hawaii in a moving box and "lived to meow about it," click here.
