Channing Tatum ("22 Jump Street," "Magic Mike") finally nabbed a director for his long gestating "Gambit" project in Rupert Wyatt ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"). During a recent Reddit AMA session, the actor spoke at length about his excitement for the project and Wyatt's influences. But he also provided X-Men fans with another bit of information.
When asked if Gambit would make an appearance in the currently filming "X-Men: Apocalypse" due out in theaters next year, the actor provided a definitive answer.
"No ma'am, or sir. I definitely will not," he replied.
Several rumors had pointed to Tatum's Gambit making a cameo in "Apocalypse." Director Bryan Singer himself had stoked the flames by publicly considering a young Nightcrawler and Gambit for the film in the early development stages. While actor Kodi Smit-McPhee ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") was cast as a teenage Nightcrawler, it turns out that Tatum will not be included.
Tatum was also asked if he would consider joining another film franchise, specifically the James Bond movie series.
"Oh that's tough. It would be very hard to turn down," Tatum wrote. "But I don't know. There is a very strong strong voice inside that tells me James Bond probably should always be a true United Kingdomer. I'm all down for changing things completely but the true nature of 007 is I feel just very innately English, it shouldn't be an American putting on an English accent."
