A brawl involving the two teenaged sons of singer John Mellencamp has resulted with felony charges of battery for the two boys after they assaulted a 19-year-old sitting on his porch, according to the Herald Times.
Speck, 18, and Hud Mellencamp, 19, are in the process of making arrangements to turn themselves into police. Ty Smith, a friend of the Mellencamps and a walk-on member of the Indiana University football team, is also being charged in the incident that ended with facial fractures and stitches for the man the three assaulted, according to the Herald Times.
Bloomington (Ind.) Police Department Officer Lucas Fosnaugh was at the scene and reported that at the time, 2:43 a.m. July 29, no one present wanted to press charges, according to the Herald Times.
A probable cause affidavit says that Speck Mellencamp, joined by the two others, stormed on to the man's porch and punched him without saying anything. After one punch the man fell to the ground where the three assailants continued to kick, punch and stomp him, according to the USA Today.
The Mellencamp brothers explained to police that the fight was "in response to Speck having been struck in the face by someone at that residence earlier in the night," according to the affidavit.
Hud Mellencamp is a boxer who won the Indiana Golden Gloves three years in a row. Hud Mellencamp told police that the fight only involved his brother and the victim and that he and Smith were present but did not fight, according to the Herald Times.
John Mellencamp appeared on the "Late Show" with David Letterman earlier this summer with a black eye. Mellencamp told Letterman that his injury came from his son, Speck.
"My son and I had words and he got a punch in and I didn't," Mellencamp told Letterman.
