The Los Angeles Dodgers (38-29) will host the San Francisco Giants (36-32) on Friday night to open up a three-game set at Dodger Stadium. It will be the tenth meeting between these two rivals this season and the Giants have dominated thus far with a 7-2 record against Los Angeles.
Giants' right-hander Chris Heston (6-5, 3.76 ERA) will face the Dodgers for the first time this season and is just two starts removed from tossing a no-hitter against the New York Mets. The 27-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for San Francisco since earning a spot in the rotation following the injuries to Matt Cain and Jake Peavy.
Dodgers' right-hander Mike Bolsinger (4-1, 2.25 ERA) will get his second look at the Giants after making his first start of 2015 against the defending World Series champions. He lasted 5 2/3 innings and gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks. The 27-year-old has also stepped up in a big way for Los Angeles after Brandon McCarthy and Hyun-jin Ryu were lost to season-ending surgeries. Bolsinger was acquired for cash in the offseason from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
These two pitchers have only 34 MLB games combined under their belt and they'll look to build off their successful 2015 campaigns.
San Francisco heads into Los Angeles having lost six of their past eight games, including a three-game sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. They just split a four-game set against the Seattle Mariners and now look to get back on track and gain some ground on the Dodgers, who have experienced an offensive slump as of late.
Los Angeles has dropped four of their past six and scored just 14 runs over that span, but hope to regain their footing this series. They'll also get a crack at Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum this weekend. Hudson has been largely inconsistent this season and Lincecum has struggled as of late, so the Dodgers will look to take advantage.
However, they'll first have to get past Heston amid their offensive woes. Bolsinger, although he has slowed down as of late, will likely give Heston a good matchup as he faces his fourth straight NL West opponent.
