Feds Indict 48 Members, Associates Of Boston's Most Feared Gang

A total of 48 members and associates of the largest, most powerful and most feared gang in Boston have been indicted for guns and drugs charges, authorities said.

Police revealed that the Columbia Point Dawgs gang members and associates were indicted on Thursday, while seven others remain on the loose.

Authorities said that the gang began their venture outside the Columbia Point housing project in Boston's Dorchester section in the 1980s, trafficking drugs to Maine from Boston, according to the Associated Press.

The gang, often recognized in the streets as "The Point," have been considered as Boston's most powerful gang since 2010, ABC News reported.

U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz said that the gang was managed by four families for the most part, adding that members of each family were among those indicted on Thursday.

Special agent Vincent Lisi, head of the Boston FBI office, said authorities believe that the gang had contributed to the heroin outbreak that the area has been wrestling with for years.
