Chris Pratt and his pack of dinos made history again at the box office when "Jurassic World" became only the second film in history to gross more than $100 million on two separate weekends.
The "Jurassic" sequel earned a whopping $102 million to take first place at the box office this past weekend, pushing past the $91 million grossed by "Inside Out" in its opening weekend. The box office win for the Universal pic also ended the reign of Pixar movies opening No. 1 in theaters.
"Jurassic World" just missed "The Avengers" record-holding $103 million haul in its second weekend, but did beat the superhero movie over its first 10 days in theaters. The dinosaur sequel has amassed a domestic gross of $398.2 million so far and surpassed the original "Jurassic Park" domestic gross of $357.1 million (not adjusting for inflation), according to Variety.
Despite their second place finish, Disney and Pixar have much to celebrate with "Inside Out." The animated family movie, which takes place primarily inside the mind of an adolescent girl, was the second best debut for a Pixar movie since "Toy Story 3" in 2010. It's also the biggest opening weekend for an original, non-sequel property since "Avatar" in 2009.
The Melissa McCarthy action-comedy "Spy" finished third followed by "San Andreas" in fourth and the premiere of the Sundance darling, "Dope," rounding out the top five.
