Gigi Hadid and Cody Simpson Reunited: Former Couple Seated Next to Each Other on a Flight (PHOTO)

Awkward! Exes Gigi Hadid and Cody Simpson were placed in an unfavorable situation when they were unexpectedly seated right next to each other on a flight to Los Angeles on Monday.

The former couple were jetting out of Toronto after attending the 2015 Much Music Video Awards on Sunday. The 18-year-old Australian singer took a photo of the awkward seating plan and shared it with his fans on Snapchat.

"When u get seated next to ur ex on a plane," Simpson wrote across the photo. He added a skull emoji at the end of the caption.

Simpson and Hadid split for a second time last month.

"Cody and Gigi want each other to be in a place right now that allows him to only focus on his music, fans, and new message, while she can focus and continue building her career," Hadid's rep said in a statement, according to Us Weekly.

"They love each other dearly and have split up in hopes that growing on their own paths will bring them together in the future. They remain friends with no hard feelings and each other's biggest supporters," the rep added.

Following the couple's split, Hadid has been rumored to be dating Joe Jonas. The two were spotted together in both New York City and L.A.

Simpson recently opened up about the benefits of being single, telling E! News, "I'm 18 years old, and I'm sort of going through that time in my life where I'm like a different person every week, you know, when you're going through the phases of being young and discovering yourself and uncovering all the layers, basically. Being by myself has just freed up space for me to actually by myself as opposite to half of somebody else."

The singer also mentioned that being in a highly publicized relationship was stressful, but Simpson said he's happy to be independent, saying, "Being by myself is great because I can be low-key...[I can] focus on my music, I'm taking up film and photography, skateboarding..."
