TV star Dick Van Patten has passed away at age 86.
The "Eight is Enough" star died early this morning at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., after suffering with complications from diabetes, People reports.
Dick began acting at just 7 years old in the Broadway production of "Tapestry in Grey" and had appeared on Broadway 27 times since. He is best known for his role as the father, Tom Bradford, on the hit '80s show "Eight is Enough." He also starred in movies like "Space Balls" and "Robin Hood Men in Tights."
His appearances in "The Six Million Dollar Man," "The New Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Happy Days" helped him earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He released an autobiography, "Eighty is Not Enough," in 2009, according to Contact Musc.
"I am sorry to report this sad news," his rep said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly. "His family will not be doing any press at this time."
He is survived by wife Patricia Van Patten, whom he was married to for more than 60 years, and their three sons.
