Fans of George R.R. Martin's book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" were rightly concerned with season five of HBO's "Game of Thrones" spoiling certain storylines that had yet to fully take form in the books. But after a thundering conclusion to the season, most of the criticism died down. While the television series did race ahead of its novel companion in certain areas, nothing too major was spoiled for loyal book readers. At least, not enough to inspire an Ironborn like rebellion from them. However, season six may change all that if Martin's sixth novel, "The Winds of Winter," does not come out beforehand.
Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for both the show and the books.
HBO is currently sending out its feelers for new characters next season and a few of them appear to be important. The following comes from the fan site Watchers on the Wall.
"Qhogo and Akrat: They're seeking mixed ethnicity or other non-white actors for the roles. The successful young warriors need to be tall, confident, with swagger and linguistic bravado. It's noted that the actors will have to speak in a fictional language. I think it's safe to say that these are Dothraki."
The last we saw of Daenerys Targaryen in the show, her dragon Drogon had barbequed some would be assassins from the Sons of the Harpy and dropped Dany off miles away. There, Dany was surrounded by the largest army of Dothraki riders we've seen on the show.
In the fifth book, "A Dance with Dragons," a similar story unfolds. But instead of Dothraki riders named Qhogo and Akrat, she is met by Khal Jhaqo, the very same warrior who took power following Khal Drogo's death. Dany's storyline will clearly pass the books if season six debuts before the release of "Winds of Winter."
There is a host other casting calls, some notable and some not. You can check the rest out on their website. What seems apparent based on the presumed characters they are looking for is that further material from books four and five will be explored, while new ground may also be covered. The race is on for Martin to publish the next installment.
What really stands out more than the introduction of these new characters is a rumored scene next season in which Tyrion and Varys welcome a new red priestess to Mereen. The ruling duo hopes to convince Mereen's inhabitants of Dany's leadership and plan to enlist the help of the same religion followed by Melisandre.
You can read the dialogue from the scene by clicking HERE. Book readers will immediately recognize a certain prophecy mentioned.
Season six of "Game of Thrones" will debut in April of 2016.
