Military Aircraft Crashed At Borders Of Arizona And Mexico

An aircraft suspected to belong to the military crashed north of Douglas, Ariz. late Wednesday night causing a brush fire.

Douglas Fire Department Lt. Matt King said in a report that the number of casualties and estimate of the aircraft damage has yet to be confirmed, but did confirm a brush fire, according to NBC News.

A tweet from Angel Ortega with Twitter handle @0r12tega reported "F-16 Airplane crash outside of Douglas! Big explosions and fire."

The Davis-Monthan Air Force is about 230 miles southeast of Phoenix and just north of the border of Douglas, Ariz. Davis-Monthan Air Force Base spokeswoman Lt. Erin Ranaweera said that a Tucson Air Force Reserve plane crashed, NBC reported.

However, as Air Force officials have yet to arrive at the scene, Army personnel from Fort Huachuca were sent to secure the crash site, said Hauchuca spokesman Tanja Linton, NBC added.

Cochise County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carol Capas said the aircraft that crashed north of Douglas, ruptured a gas line and sparked a fire. She said that once the flames are extinguished officials will be able to assess the extent of the damage, according to Tucson News Now.
