Warner Bros. has made the decision to stop the production of toy versions of "The Dukes of Hazzard" car, the General Lee, which features a Confederate flag on its roof.
The decision comes after calls for the removal of the flag from statehouses and other public places build momentum in light of the shooting inside a church in Charleston, SC just last week.
"Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the Confederate flag on its roof - as it was seen in the TV series. We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories," a spokesperson for the company told Variety.
On Tuesday, "The Dukes of Hazzard" star and former U.S. senator Ben Lewis Jones defended the flag. "That show did have - prominently featured a Confederate battle flag in a very positive context, in a place where there was no racism," he said in an interview with CNN.
Warner Bros. follow in the footsteps of Amazon, eBay, Sears and Walmart, who also decided to cease the selling of products with the Confederate flag in it.
The company had denied rumors that it was going to remove the controversial flag on its toy products back in 2012, according to the Verge.
