Taye Diggs Glams Out In First Photo From 'Hedwig And The Angry Inch'

The first look at Taye Diggs in the Broadway rock musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is now available in a photo released exclusively to People magazine.

"Hedwig is the role of a lifetime. I'm looking forward to being challenged performance-wise on many levels, as well as being humbled by the musical's social implications," Diggs told People. "I also like wearing nail polish."

The shot was taken by photographer Sebastian Mader, and it offers the first look at the 44-year old actor fully made up for his lead role as Hedwig, the New York Daily News reported. Diggs is all glammed out in a full face of glitter make up, with purple and blue eye shadow sparkling beneath furrowed, pencil-thin eyebrows. A pop of glittery, ruby red lipstick completes the look.

The show posted the photo on its Instagram page with the caption, "Hedwig is the role of a lifetime" - Taye Diggs. Photo by Sebastian Mader premiering today via @peoplemag #HedwigOnBway @tayediggsinsta begins July 22!"

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a 2014 Tony Award Winner for Best Theater Revival, The Wrap reported. The musical's plot revolves around Diggs' character Hedwig, a transgender rocker who sings about her botched gender reassignment surgery. The role marks Diggs' return to Broadway after a decade. The Broadway alum hasn't graced a New York stage since 2005's "A Soldier's Play."

Diggs will take on the role for a special 12-week engagement starting on July 22, replacing "Glee" star Darren Criss.
