Rose McGowan has never been silent about the amount of sexism in Hollywood—but a poor choice of words could cost the actress her career.
On Wednesday, the 41-year-old former "Charmed" star claimed she was dropped from her talent agency for publicly accusing Adam Sandler of being sexist during one of his casting calls. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the "Grindhouse" star's agents were Sheila Wenzel and Steve Muller of Innovative Artists.
"I just got fired by my wussy acting agent because I spoke up about the bullshit in Hollywood. Hahaha. #douchebags #awesome #BRINGIT," she wrote on Twitter.
Last week, McGowan took to Twitter to call out a casting note that asked auditioning actresses to wear something sexy in order to be considered for a particular role. The casting note said: "Please make sure to read the attached script before coming in so you understand the context of the scenes. Wardrobe note: Black (or dark) form-fitting tank that shows off cleavage (push-up bras encouraged). And formfitting leggings or jeans. Nothing white." She captioned the post, "casting note that came w/script I got today. For real. name of male star rhymes with Madam Panhandler hahahaha I die."
McGowan attempted to clarify her previous comments during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying she wasn't trying to criticize Sandler specifically, but rather send a larger message to Hollywood.
"The wardrobe part was dumb enough. The part that made me laugh was where it said, 'Make sure you read the script so you understand the context of the scene,'" she told the publication Tuesday. "I'm not trying to vilify Adam Sandler. I was offended by the stupidity more than anything. I was offended by the fact that went through so many people's hands and nobody red flagged it. This is normal to so many people. It was probably even a girl that had to type it up. It's institutionally okay."
McGowan is currently promoting her directorial debut, the film "Dawn," which premiered during January's Sundance Film Festival.
