Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for "Game of Thrones"
"Game of Thrones" is (in)famous for killing off popular main characters (RIP Ned, Robb, etc.). The show continued to live up to that reputation by (seemingly) offing Jon Snow in the season five finale. However, immediately after those daggers were done plunging into our favorite Lord Commander, fans took to the Internet to express their disbelief.
Many fans just did not believe Jon Snow was really dead. Or, that he won't stay dead for very long.
A recent report from Vanity Fair revealed that actor Kit Harington would not be present for the "Game of Thrones" Comic-Con panel this year. This is suspicious because actors whose character have been killed off in the show have regularly made appearances at the following Comic-Con. Jason Momoa, who portrayed Khal Drogo, came on stage in 2013. Pedro Pascal, who played Prince Oberyn, did the same last year. While both characters were fan favorites, neither was as important as Jon Snow is to the central storyline.
It's also interesting that showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will be absent for the panel as well. That means no one with direct knowledge of Jon's fate will be present to be pestered with question about Jon's fate. Coincidence? I think not.
Many fans of the show and of George R. R. Martin's book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" believe that Jon is secretly the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen, making Jon not only the physical embodiment of Ice and Fire, but also a contender for the Iron Throne of Westeros. Due to his lineage and importance in the battle against the looming White Walker threat, many believe that the Red Priestess Melisandre will somehow revive Jon (as the Red Priest Thoros of Myr did for Beric Dondarrion a few seasons back) and that he will be present for season six.
What do you think, "Thrones" fans? Is Jon really dead or is the show playing us with a long con? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
