Conn. Residents Call 911 After Cable Outage Prohibits Them To Watch True Blood, Breaking Bad

Connecticut residents panicked when a cable outage caused them to miss their favorite Sunday night television shows, so much that they called 911 for help?

The story sounds silly, but a service outage affected Optimum users in Southwestern Connecticut, according to the Danbury News-Times:

A downdetector.com map that illustrates Optimum services shows the Internet, television and phone service provider was down Sunday evening from Greenwich to Milford, though it did not appear to be affecting everyone in that area. Users via Twitter have reported outages in Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford, Milford and as far north as Orange. Other users who reported outages in Darien and Easton said their service has returned sporadically. Some areas have cable, but no Internet.

This was bad news for Breaking Bad fans, but especially for True Blood fans who missed out on the season finale. (Spoiler alert: a sexy vampire went full frontal-nude in a scene.)

Cable outages are normal, but some resident need to look up the definition of an emergency. No one was in a life threating situation, but a police department in Connecticut received multiple 911 calls over the cable being out.

The Fairfield Police Department took to their Facebook page to tell the public to stop calling them about the cable outage:

"We are receiving numerous 911 calls regarding the Cablevision outage. This is neither an emergency nor a police-related concern. Please direct your inquiries to Cablevision. 911 should be called for Life Threatening Emergencies ONLY. Incidents that are not of an emergency nature may be reported to the Fairfield Police Department at (203) 254-4800. Misuse of the 911 system may result in an arrest."

According to the News-Times, Cablevision fixed the outages by 11:30 p.m. However, the downdetector.com map did show there were still problem areas in some towns.
