"Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star Kris Jenner has remained respectively quiet about her ex-husband's gender transition—including avoiding commenting on Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair cover—until now.
"I think it's amazing," the 59-year-old reality star told Extra in Cannes Wednesday. "I think that someone following their dream is truly inspirational to a lot of people... you have to do what makes you happy."
Kris also added that she thought Annie Leibovitz's photos of Caitlyn were "beautiful."
Caitlyn made her debut as a transgender woman Monday, June 1. Along with being featured on the cover of Vanity Fair, she gave an in-depth interview to "Friday Night Lights" author and journalist Buzz Bissinger about all things in her life, including being married to Kris.
"I think, in a lot of ways, she became less tolerant of me. Then I'd get upset and the whole relationship kind of fizzled," she told the magazine about her marriage to Kris. "A lot of times she wasn't very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money... all that kind of stuff."
Kris also commented on her marriage to the former Olympian before the magazine hit stands, claiming that Caitlyn's gender dysphoria wasn't explained to her until after their 2014 divorced.
"When I met Bruce, he told me that he had done hormones back in the early '80s. This was a conversation that took place in the early '90s," said Kris. "So, what he was telling me happened a decade earlier, and he never really explained it... there wasn't a gender issue. Nobody mentioned a gender issue. Somebody mentioned that [he] at one point in his life liked to dress up."
Caitlyn's eight-part docuseries, "I Am Cait," premieres July 26, at 8 p.m., on E!
