The Los Angeles Lakers selected Ohio State point guard D'Angelo Russell with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Russell averaged 19.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game last season. Perhaps most importantly, though, is his 41 percent shooting from three. His deep range and court vision set him apart from the other point guards in this draft despite Russell's so-so athleticism.
At 6-foot-5 and 193 pounds, Russell has the size to eventually move over to the shooting guard position and take over for Kobe Bryant once he retires. For now, he gives the Lakers a proven floor general that can both score and facilitate the offense. Pairing him with last year's No. 7 overall pick Julius Randle gives Los Angeles a nice inside-outside scoring punch and two young building blocks.
