Fake Dentist Arrested In Dallas, Police Seeking More Victims

A Texas man and woman are now facing various charges after being arrested for faking being a dentist and an assistant.

Mario Sabillon-Mejia, 33, and Tiffany Gonzalez, 41, were arrested Wednesday afternoon. Dallas Police say they passed themselves off as a dentist and dental assistant and charged a woman $1,500 to pull five teeth from her mouth during a procedure in her home, according to NBCDFW.

Authorities were alerted to the fake dentist when a woman came forward stating she had developed an infection in her mouth after Sabillon-Mejia removed five of her teeth.

Sabillon-Mejia and Gonzalez are currently being held in the Dallas County jail on felony charges of practicing medicine without a license and two misdemeanor counts of possessing dangerous drugs, according to WFAA.

Erika Martinez, the woman who first reported the two to the police, explained that she didn't have any insurance for dental care. She asked a friend for the name of a dentist and was give the name of the fake dentist, the New York Daily News reported.

The procedure last month left Martinez in pain with heavy bleeding in her mouth, according to police reports. She recalls that she was given an "unknown type of medicine" for the pain.

After the arrest, police recovered items that are commonly used in licensed dental practices, including dental instruments, denture materials, and the drugs carbocaine and lidocaine.

Sabillon-Mejia, a Honduras native, is also being held on an immigration hold.

Police believe that he has treated over 50 other patients in the area and are asking that anyone who has received dental treatment from the pair to call Sergeant Richard Santiesban at (214) 671-3517.
