A beagle mix named Mary already has seven puppies but was still happy to adopt more little ones. But instead of puppies, she got kittens.
The dog fosters three kittens that were dropped off at the Animal Shelter of Pickens County in Jasper, Ga. The trio came to the shelter without a mother. With that, Mary treated the kittens as if she was the biological mother cat.
Judy Moody, the shelter's assistant director, said that the dog appears to have been born to be a mother to animals of all different species, no less, The Dodo reported.
We can see in the video how Mary showed her love and tenderness to the kittens as she carried them into her crate. She held them gently by the scruff of their necks and made sure they are okay by licking and sniffing each one of them.
While the kittens were fed by an animal shelter employee, the foster dog watched them with concern.
"She loves her kittens," Moody said, according to NBC Atlanta. "I took two of them away and she had a heart attack, poor thing ... If anything, [Mary's foster behavior] has given the kittens the companionship of the litter, the mother, the warmth."
The kittens were a new addition to Mary's litter of nursing pups. It sure is a cute and heartwarming sight when the two animals that were believed to be enemies can actually live together in one crate.
