The Washington Redskins are in quarterback purgatory. Robert Griffin III has failed to recapture the magic of his rookie season due to a handful of factors and will have one last shot this season to prove himself as a franchise quarterback. Internally, the Redskins are divided on RGIII. But how does the rest of the NFC East view him?
ESPN Redskins reporter John Keim asked his fellow NFC East writers how their teams see Griffin and one answer may surprise you.
"There are two sides to this answer from the Cowboys' perspective," Dallas reporter Todd Archer wrote. "I think Jerry Jones still fears him a ton. Jones will never shake what Griffin did to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving in 2012. That was a phenomenal performance. From a coach and player perspective, I think fear is too strong of a word. They respect him, of course. They know what he can do if healthy and confident, which are two things he hasn't been lately. Griffin was so good so early that he will always be chasing that ghost. If Jay Gruden can get the rest of the pieces around Griffin playing better, then he will have a chance and he will give the Cowboys more things to worry about than the normal quarterback."
New Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan committed to improving the roster around Griffin this offseason. The defensive additions should push Washington to middle of the pack on that side of the ball while No. 5 overall pick Brandon Scherff is expected to bring some stability to the right side of the offensive line. But will it be enough to return Griffin to his early glory days?
The Cowboys better hope not. The two teams won't meet until December 7 and then again in the last game of the season. While the Cowboys are expected to repeat as NFC East champions, questions in their backfield and in their secondary remain. The last thing they want to see is an RGIII resurgence.
