Hip-hop icon Kanye West got "Kanye'd" during his performance at England's Glastonbury Festival over the weekend. British comedian Simon Brodkin rushed the stage during West's performance, interrupting it and giving West a taste of his own medicine, CNN reports.
Brodkin, dressed in his character Lee Nelson, invaded the Pyramid stage four songs into West's Glastonbury headline slot on Saturday night. Less than a minute into the song "Black Skinhead," Brodkin was seen bouncing his way on stage with a microphone, wearing a white backwards hat and a white T-shirt with the word "Lee-zus" printed in black ink, a play on West's alter ego "Yeezus" and the title of his 2013 album. Brodkin lasted 10 seconds on stage next to West when a security guard rushed after Brodkin and escorted him off the stage.
West's booking at the festival caused an uproar with Glastonbury fans, who don't normally take kindly to hip-hop acts. A Change.org petition collected more than 130,000 signatures to cancel his performance, according to Billboard. But West's set didn't appear to be as polarizing as the petition made it out to be, as fans could be seen in a video with their hands up, bouncing along to the beat.
After the comedian was ousted, West was forced to restart the song.
Brodkin boasted on social media and took credit for stage-hacking. He triumphantly announced that he "Kanye'd Kanye" to more than 99 million Twitter followers. The term "Kanye'd" is used to describe interruptions on stage that West is known for, since the time he interrupted pop star Taylor Swift during her 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech. Brodkin dedicated his stunt to Swift.
