Last night's episode of "Gypsy Sisters" saw a break in family drama, and instead focused on a getaway to repair relationships and help the sisters bond.
A quiet family dinner at family matriarch Nettie's house was interrupted by a surprise delivery from Nettie's sister Dovie. Dovie recently moved back to North Carolina, but she sent a box of cowgirl hats along with a letter explaining that she set them up with an RV to spend a week at the River's Bend Ranch in Stanley, Va. The girls packed their cowgirl boots and bling and headed off.
Once they arrived at River's Bend, the girls explored the bunk house, full of kitschy Western decor and complained about the lack of TVs.
"This is a place you come to unplug and have fun," Kayla said, and JoAnn agreed. "This is just what this family needs."
Ranch manager Melissa delivered the news that they aren't there to relax but to work together on ranch chores the next day.
Nettie is forced to stay back the next morning due to a stomach virus, but the rest of the girls went on without her, some more reluctant than others to get dirty on the ranch. Melissa confiscated their cell phones and introduced them to a group of cowboys who supervised their chores and reminded them that they needed to work as a team. Mellie took to the first task and quietly enjoyed mucking the horse stables.
The second task was herding cattle, and Annie was the first to jump right in, trailing behind the cows while the others kept a safe distance. "They feel your energy," a cowboy told them, "you have to stay calm."
After successfully moving the cattle into a fenced area, the girls watched another cowboy give a cow a pregnancy test. The last task of the day was a game where the girls had to catch a calf long enough to retrieve a green ribbon from its tail, and Annie won.
The girls headed back to the bunk house for showers while Annie lead the way, as she called out behind her, "Do ya'll miss ya'll's phones? I miss mine!"
Nettie felt better on day two and joined the girls for their second task. They were taken off-site to the Bear Mountain ropes course, where they continued to work on team-building 25 feet in the air. The episode ends with Mellie refusing to participate.
"I'm not doing this," Mellie said defiantly. "I'm not going up in the air."
