Bye-bye, Trump. NBC is "ending its business relationship" with Donald Trump in the wake of his "recent derogatory statements" toward immigrants, the network said in a statement on Monday (via The Hollywood Reporter).
NBC will discontinue its coverage of the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants as they are "part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump." The real estate tycoon will also not participate in any future seasons of "The Apprentice."
In his announcement to run for President of the United States, Trump referred to the immigrants flooding across the U.S.-Mexican border as "rapists" and said they're bringing drugs and crime into the country. He then finished the thought with "some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting."
The remarks caused the NBC Universal network Univision to pull out of the pageant following cancellations by singer J Balvin and hosts for Univision's coverage, Roselyn Sanchez and Christian de la Fuente.
NBC received insurmountable pressure to drop Trump after his comments. At first, the network released a statement saying, "Donald Trump's opinions do not represent those of NBC, and we do not agree with his positions on a number of issues, including his recent comments on immigration."
The 2015 Miss USA Pageant was scheduled to air on Sunday, July 12.
