Donald Trump will not go gentle into that good night. The GOP presidential candidate is threatening to sue NBC after the network decided to end its "business relationship" with Trump.
On Monday, NBC pulled its coverage of the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which was a joint venture between the company and Trump. The network also confirmed that the real estate tycoon would no longer participate in future seasons of "The Apprentice."
In response, Trump threatened legal action in a statement posted on his Instagram saying, "their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court." He then questioned how NBC could "stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won't stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as they may be."
The decision to cut ties stems from Trump's derogatory remarks during his announcement to run for President of the United States. The billionaire candidate referred to the immigrants flooding across the U.S.-Mexican border as "rapists" and said they're bringing drugs and crime into the country. He then finished the thought with "some I assume are good people but I speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting."
The comments caused the NBC Universal network Univision to pull out of the pageant following cancellations by singer J Balvin and hosts for Univision's coverage, Roselyn Sanchez and Christian de la Fuente.
NBC received insurmountable pressure to drop Trump after his comments. At first, the network released a statement saying, "Donald Trump's opinions do not represent those of NBC, and we do not agree with his positions on a number of issues, including his recent comments on immigration."
The 2015 Miss USA Pageant was scheduled to air on Sunday, July 12.
