Kanye West's polarizing headlining performance at the Glastonbury music festival in England just got a whole lot funnier. The BBC hired some poor bloke to subtitle Kanye's performance for the live stream of the event and the hilarious lyric fails went viral, NME reports.
The ever-proper British public broadcasting network warned fans before West's set that his performance "may contain strong language and adult themes," according to Buzzfeed. The Chicago-based rapper performed a 104-minute set, which included a guest performance by indie folk darling Bon Iver, a condensed cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and an interruption during his song "Black Skinhead" by British comedian Simon Brodkin, as previously reported by HNGN.
Although the BBC chose not to censor Kanye West's audio during the performance, it did take measures to make their subtitles clean. Whoever was in charge of transcribing West's lyrics had quite the job of keeping up with West's flow but also altered his language so that it would be less offensive -and did so in a hilarious way. "N---a" became "ligga," "motherf----r" became "motherducker," and the subtitle person eventually gave up due to what we could only assume was typing fatigue.
Screenshots of the subtitled performance went viral on social media (see below). And if you're in the UK, watch West's set in all its lyrics-fail glory here.
