UPDATE: Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com has been told Dipoto has made his final decision and is stepping down from his position as general manager.
UPDATE: FOX Sports' Jon Morosi says Angels' owner Arte Moreno and team president John Carpino are "still trying to broker a peace between Dipoto and Scioscia.
On Monday night it was reported the Los Angeles Angels front office clashed with the coaching staff during a series of meetings over the weekend. The tension was apparently resolved late last night, but not in a good way.
Jerry Dipoto is "definitely out" as Angels' general manager, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick and FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Rumors from Rosenthal's Monday story found Dipoto was angered with the coaching staff for failing to "convey scouting information to the players."
However, this is nothing new. Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia - the longest tenured manager in the MLB - have not seen eye-to-eye on multiple occasions over the past few years and tension between the front office and coaching staff has almost been a trend.
The Angels picked up Dipoto's option for this season, but hadn't yet acted on his 2016 option. Interestingly enough, manager Mike Scioscia has an opt-out clause in his contract that he can exercise after this season, which would allow him to forgo the final three years and $18 million on his deal. After Rosenthal reported the tension is "far more pervasive, extending to the Angels coaches and even the players," it appeared as if one of these men would be gone after the season.
Dipoto, as of right now, appears to be the one whose tenure will end.
"'He's definitely out,' a Major League Baseball source with knowledge of the situation said of Dipoto," writes Crasnick. "Two baseball sources said Dipoto resigned his position Tuesday, although the Angels offered no immediate confirmation. Dipoto did not return a text message seeking comment."
"An MLB source told ESPN.com that Dipoto approached owner Arte Moreno with an ultimatum that 'backfired.'"
The Angels have not confirmed the rumors. We'll be keeping updates once more is made available.
